Who pays the real estate commission?

The real estate commission in Ontario is typically paid by the seller of the property. The commission is deducted from the proceeds of the sale.

During the closing process, the buyer's lawyer or notary will coordinate the financial aspects of the transaction. The real estate commission, along with other closing costs and fees, will be calculated, and the amount payable to the real estate agent or broker will be determined.

The commission is then subtracted from the total sale proceeds, and the net amount is provided to the seller.
